About this event

NEA Big Read programming provides communities with the opportunity to gather, discuss, and create in the spirit of a single book/author, in this case, The Essential Emily Dickinson. No previous experience with poetry or the works of Emily Dickinson is required.

Victory comes late: Emily Dickinson’s Quiet Patriotism

In this talk, participants will learn about Dickinson’s poetic production during the Civil War, read/discuss 2-3 poems that reflect on victory/loss, and discuss the poems as commentaries on war and explorations of Dickinson’s patriotism.
