Good morning, Gilbert.

Gilbert police recovered a firearm after reports a 17-year-old boy brought a handgun to Highland High School, forcing a lockdown and leading officers to find him in a nearby neighborhood where he faced charges including possessing a firearm on school grounds, disorderly conduct, and burglary.

Campo Verde High School honored 45 students with its third annual Copper Coyote Awards last week for achievements in academics, clubs, and service.

Principal Tyler Dumas said the awards include the Campo Way Award (for strong character and community service) and the Outstanding Senior Award to celebrate the school's diverse talents.

The town of Gilbert is seeking three resident volunteers for its Veterans Advisory Board to help advise on policies and organize community events — positions with a three-year term and monthly meetings — and applications must be submitted by 7 a.m., Monday, May 5.
