Gilbert Town has declined Chandler’s invitation to build a joint crime lab because officials said more research into emerging technology and design practices is needed to meet future public safety needs—Chandler is moving ahead with plans for its own one-story, 30,000-square-foot forensic lab at an estimated cost of $61 million while some council members question if the expense is justified.

The eastbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Price Road closed Friday night for about two months as crews began reconstructing the ramp for a freeway widening project in Chandler and Gilbert.

Drivers are advised to take detour routes at Dobson or Alma School roads, and the ramp is expected to reopen by late June — the $200 million project is funded partly by Proposition 400.
