- ➤ The DAR Desert Wells Chapter presented its bronze JROTC medal and certificate to Higley High AFJROTC Cadet Captain Alexander Shaffer at Williams-Field High School. His commanding officer (retired Col. Scott Vaughn) recommended him for the honor based on his academic success and leadership, and he now leads 21 juniors in the program. Gilbert Sun News

- ➤ Gilbert is planning a $2.3 billion budget with $1.7 billion for capital projects such as wastewater and park improvements, but town manager Patrick Banger warned fiscal '26 will be difficult due to a $14 million revenue shortfall from the loss of a residential rental tax and a state income tax reduction—officials will hold a preliminary vote on May 20.
