  • Gilbert Public Schools found guns on two campuses and will speed up the rollout of weapons detection systems, officials said. Superintendent Shane McCord said the new measures will be put in place soon — reinforcing efforts to keep campuses safe.  Gilbert Independent

  • Hopeful Horizons Counseling opened April 1 at 1176 E. Warner Road (suite 203) in Gilbert and offers counseling to young men, families and couples in a Catholic and Christian setting.   • Candice Gonzales, Mesquite High School’s girls basketball coach, was honored on April 11 with the Spirit of Cotton Award after receiving a $10,000 gift from the Phoenix Suns—Phoenix Mercury Foundation to support school athletic programs.
