  • Residents in the Adora Trails community report a 70—90% reduction in cattle intrusions after a rail fence was built along the southern border at the end of April. Repairs on the western fence continue, and residents say full resolution may require further cooperation with the nearby reservation.  Gilbert Sun News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Hale Centre Theatre begins a seven-week run of The Scarlet Pimpernel on May 16, a musical set during the French Revolution that follows Sir Percy Blakeney as he disguises himself to rescue French aristocrats from the guillotine. Shows run 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays—with extra matinees at 4 p.m. on Fridays in May and Saturdays in May and June—and tickets cost $39 to $58.  Gilbert Independent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Katie Hobbs signed Preston’s Law on Monday, which creates a new crime called swarming that lets courts give tougher penalties to groups that attack one person. The law, named in memory of 16-year-old Preston Lord who died after an incident in Queen Creek on October 28th, declares swarming a class four felony—ensuring attackers face stronger consequences.  Gilbert Independent
