Officer Ryan Matheson—Gilbert school resource officer at Cooley Middle School—received the National Association of School Resource Officers Exceptional Service Award for the second year and will accept his award at the NASRO School Safety Conference in Grapevine, Texas in July.

He has served with the Gilbert Police Department for six years and daily works to build trust with students.

Gilbert Town Council approved a $2.46 billion preliminary budget for fiscal 2025-26 last week after long talks on the town's financial future, which includes 34 new full-time hires and $1.67 billion for capital projects (such as water system and park improvements).

Town officials warned that spending will remain tight due to revenue losses and rising costs.

Sundt Construction, leading work on the Gilbert Water Treatment Project, received a state grant from Arizona’s BuildItAZ Apprenticeship Initiative to expand its workforce training programs — the grant is part of a $1 million effort to support new apprenticeship opportunities — and aims to open pathways for women and Spanish-speaking residents in the region.
