Good morning, Gilbert.

On June 10, the Gilbert Public Schools board approved a 5% bonus for Superintendent Shane McCord, adding $12,000 to his $240,000 salary for the 2024-25 fiscal year after meeting key academic and operational goals.

Board members praised McCord for his leadership as he prepares to retire after the coming school year—highlighting years of progress since his return in 2017.

Earlier this year, five Gilbert Public Schools teams placed in the top five at the Winter Guard Arizona State Championships with Highland Junior High finishing fourth at 63.340, South Valley Junior High fifth at 62.620, Campo Verde High fourth at 82.870, Desert Ridge High second at 85.625 and Mesquite High fourth at 72.110. Desert Ridge High has improved its winter guard scores over recent years by having high school students mentor their junior high teammates — a strategy that builds talent and eases the transition to high school competition.

During Men’s Health Month, experts stress that men must take self-care seriously as they face higher risks from heart disease, cancer, and injuries due to fewer doctor visits.

Clinics like evolvedMD and HealthyU Clinics are adding mental health care into primary checkups + encouraging men to care for both body and mind.
