Good morning, Gilbert.

Grocery prices have risen over 6% since 2022 and a family of four now needs close to $1,000 a month for food, so Gilbert shoppers are urged to plan ahead by checking weekly ads—making a strict list, eating before shopping, and using discount programs and credit rewards to trim their bills.

Two Gilbert Public Schools principals earned honors for exceptional leadership — Jim Leeper of Boulder Creek Elementary received the Arizona School Administrators’ Distinguished Administrator Award and Tyler Dumas of Campo Verde High received the Maricopa County School Superintendent’s Exemplary Principal Award — for their work in boosting student achievement and strengthening school culture.

Higley Unified School District earned the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Association of School Business Officials International for its fiscal report ending June 30.

The award recognizes the district's clear focus on transparency and strong financial management—vital for supporting quality education.

Dr. Shane McCord will retire after the 25/26 school year after eight years as superintendent—he spent over 30 years in education—and the Gilbert Public Schools Governing Board has begun searching for a new district leader.
