- ➤ Tonight, the Higley Unified and Gilbert Public Schools boards meet and are expected to generate more discussion than decisions; Higley USD's agenda features a statement from new superintendent David Loutzenheiser on his request to join the board dais—a move previously criticized by board members Anna Van Hoek and Sara Jarman. - ➤ More than 400 high school students in Gilbert Public Schools are taking sports medicine courses to learn injury prevention, emergency response and CPR as football season approaches. - ➤ Developers of a 14.24-acre mixed-use project in South Gilbert asked to change the zoning from regional commercial to residential, which would lower the office and retail space to 3.49% from the 20% standard and include 357 apartment units above office space. Town Council delayed a decision until Oct. 14 to give the developer time to revise the plan & address concerns over losing vital commercial land. Gilbert Sun News
