- ➤ On Aug. 16, Gilbert Police partnered with Higley Unified School District for the first Shop with a Police Officer event—24 students with back-to-school needs shopped at Target using about $200 each granted through donations. The event, which helped ease family burdens, allowed students like nine-year-old Frankie to build trust with local officers. Gilbert Sun News

- ➤ Crust Simply Italian opened The Aviary, a private venue located next to its restaurant at 2470 S. Recker Road, suite 104 in the Verde at Cooley Station development, where residents can host events like birthdays, small weddings and corporate gatherings. - ➤ Derek Hanson, a Gilbert resident who moved from Vermont at age 21, directs brewing operations at Pedal Haus Brewery as he manages the Chandler facility that supplies beer to Valley locations including Tempe, Mesa, Phoenix and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Gilbert Independent

- ➤ The Gilbert Police Department received a $15,000 grant to cover overtime costs for state-wide DUI training and enforcement—helping officers remove impaired drivers from local roads.
