- ➤ Gilbert residents can join 96 volunteer events organized by the town and nonprofit partners Just Serve and For Our Town until Sept. 13 to mark the 9/11 Day of Service. The town will hold a memorial service at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 11 at the 9/11 Memorial Plaza—where eight local nonprofits host hands-on activities from 5 to 6:30 p.m. without registration. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Gilbert’s Banner MD Anderson team members helped expand AHCCCS coverage to include speech and swallowing therapy for adults over 21 under Senate Bill 1741—this new law will benefit head and neck cancer, ALS, Parkinson’s, traumatic brain injury, and stroke patients and will save nearly $3 million a year when it goes into effect in October. It fills a critical gap in care that previously forced many patients to rely on more expensive and invasive treatments. Gilbert Independent
