Arts organizations in Gilbert and Higley received state grant funding as part of a nearly $2.66 million program for nonprofit arts and cultural projects; Arizona Youth Ballet earned $3,920, the Gilbert Visual Art League $1,200, and East Valley Youth Symphony received $1,600 (awards announced for fiscal year 2027).
🎓 Education
Chandler Unified Governing Board approved a one-year contract with the Gilbert Police Department to provide school resource officers at Payne Junior High & Perry High School on Sept.
9. The contract passed with a 4-1 vote.
🏛️ Government
Town staff is planning to upgrade Freestone Park in north Gilbert by adding 16 pickleball courts, a playground, and a splash pad.
The project (on a 12.89-acre parcel at Freestone Parkway and Juniper Avenue) is 60% designed and received Planning Commission input last week.
