- ➤ Greenfield Elementary teacher Anne Kelley received the Carl Wiltse Scholarship last month at the Bay View Week of Handbells convention—she connected with advanced bell-ringers to bring new ideas back to her classroom. Gilbert Independent
- ➤ Students from Higley High School’s law and public safety program led a 9/11 tribute on Thursday by turning the school courtyard into a Field of Honor—placing American flags and a wall of names to remember those lost. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Gilbert Town Council voted six to one to postpone approval of zoning and land use changes for Lennar Homes’ proposed 91-home Willowbrook project and will reconvene on Oct 14 to review design revisions addressing local traffic and density concerns. Council members noted that high speeds and long delays at the intersection of Riggs Road & 156th Street have led to calls for safer turning options. Gilbert Sun News
- ➤ Gilbert Parks and Recreation director Robert Carmona resigned last week—he submitted his letter on Sept. 3 with immediate effect and will help during the transition—and Allyna Bay now serves as interim director while a nationwide search is launched. Gilbert Independent
