- ➤ Nine school districts including Gilbert Public Schools met behind closed doors last week to plan legal action against EVIT over millions in funds for on-campus career programs—aiming to keep local CTE options active. EVIT criticized the secret meetings and said that while no programs will close, a lawsuit could burden taxpayers by diverting funds from classrooms to courtrooms. Gilbert Sun News
- ➤ The Gilbert Public Schools Governing Board approved the first revision to its fiscal year 2025-26 budget on Sept. 9 using updated figures for state changes and extra funds. - ➤ Chandler-Gilbert area player Jace Huma, a member of the Hopi Tribe, played on the first Native American team at the 2025 Babe Ruth World Series in Branson, Missouri in August. The team—selected from over 160 players representing more than 40 tribes after a tournament near Scottsdale—won a 7—5 game against a Montana team and plans to expand its programs for future competitions.
