- ➤ Conservative activist Charlie Kirk was fatally shot during his tour stop at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10, and his body was flown back to Phoenix while faith leaders in metro Phoenix offered prayers and condemned the violence+urged community unity. The Arizona Republic

- ➤ Actors Youth Theatre will present The Addams Family Musical at Life Community Church, 717 W. Ray Road in Gilbert from Sept. 17—21. Showtimes include 7 p.m. on Sept. 17, 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Sept. 18—19, 10 a.m. on Sept. 20, and 3 p.m. on Sept. 21 while tickets cost $20. Gilbert Independent
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Rising repair costs for aging trucks and increasing landfill tipping fees have strained Gilbert’s solid waste fund, and public works staff are reviewing trash rates that could lead to higher fees for residents next year—pressure also mounts from a declining recycling market that is raising disposal costs.
