  • Gilbert resident Cole Cannon, owner of Cannon Beach, will host a free block party tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 4537 S. Power Road in East Mesa—featuring Revel Surf’s 2-acre surf lagoon, food vendors, music, a petting zoo, a costume contest, and a foam truck to introduce the public to his mixed-use development.  Gilbert Sun News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Hale Concert Hall announced its 2026 concert series featuring tribute performances that honor iconic artists and musical eras. The series will run from January 2 until December 19 in downtown Gilbert—offering themed shows like Bee Gees, Roy Orbison, ’60s music, Broadway classics, and more.  Gilbert Independent
  • The second Sound Bites Music and Food Festival will take place tomorrow at Gilbert Regional Park — featuring Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers as the headliner — following last year's event headlined by the Gin Blossoms.  Gilbert Independent

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new WalletHub study shows that Gilbert residents spent 1.23% of their monthly income on groceries—one of the lowest shares in the state—while residents in Glendale, Phoenix, Tempe, and Mesa spent over 1.9%. The study compared 26 common items such as meat, dairy, and vegetables to local incomes.  The Arizona Republic

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Park University in Gilbert is reviewing its future as it adopts a new strategic plan and mission statement to align its programs with evolving student and employer needs—its review includes its Parkville campus and military centers nationwide. The campus opened in 2018 with a goal to reach a balanced budget within five years—but delays from the COVID-19 pandemic have prompted this reassessment.  Gilbert Independent
