EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Higley Unified School District spent about $14 million from its maintenance and operations override in fiscal year 2024–25—34% of which went to teacher pay to raise salaries above the state average. The district is now beginning a phase-down period and expects a 33% funding cut this fiscal year due to the failed renewal in 2024. Gilbert Independent
- ➤ Gilbert Public Schools will host its second annual College and Career Fair at Gilbert High School on Monday, Oct. 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. Families and students may attend four pre-sessions beginning at 5 p.m.—covering the Common App, nontraditional career paths, college funding, and financial aid—designed to help explore post–high school opportunities. - ➤ The Gilbert Chamber of Commerce is urging voters to support a school bond and a 15 percent maintenance operations override for Chandler Unified and Higley Unified on Nov. 4—these measures will fund teacher salaries, safety upgrades, and facility improvements while avoiding cuts that would increase class sizes and reduce programs.
