- ➤ Students from Higley High School and Gilbert Classical Academy won top awards at the MAKERS of Change Assistive Technology Challenge held Oct. 17 at the Helios Education Foundation in Phoenix — over 100 teams competed to design adaptive devices for a 5-year-old boy with cerebral palsy. - ➤ Early results for Higley's 15% maintenance and operations override show that the measure is losing by nearly 1,500 votes, with 6,917 No votes plus 5,431 Yes votes. The initial count from Maricopa County had a turnout of 21.19%, signaling that the proposal will not pass to avoid further cuts. Gilbert Independent
- ➤ On Oct. 28, the Gilbert Public Schools Governing Board reviewed updates to its patriotic observances policy—updates that add two state-mandated civics education days—and Superintendent Dr. Shane McCord presented the changes to rename the policy 'Patriotic Exercises and Observance Days.'
